This policy explains what happens to information when you use Ferry Indicator (“the app”), an Android app that shows ferry departure times, journey durations and indicative fares for routes across Mumbai Harbour, including Gateway of India and Mandwa.
The app is published by Rohit Mane, based in Mumbai - India. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Rohit Mane.
At a glance
1.Information stored on your device
To make the app usable, it saves the following locally on your phone. This information is not transmitted to us and we cannot read it:
- Recent searches — the jetty pairs you have looked up, so you can repeat a search quickly.
- Favourites — routes you have saved with the heart icon.
- Preferences — your theme and language choices from Settings.
- A cached copy of the timetable — so departure times remain available when you have no signal.
You can clear recent searches at any time using Clear on the home screen, and remove favourites individually. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it from your device.
2.Information we do not collect
The app does not ask for, collect or store:
- Your name, postal address, date of birth or government identifiers
- Your device's location, GPS coordinates or nearby networks
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, files, microphone or camera
- Payment or card details — the app does not sell tickets. Fares shown are indicative only and are paid directly to the ferry operator.
- Your call history. Tapping an operator's phone number opens your phone's dialler with the number filled in; you choose whether to place the call, and the call itself happens entirely in your phone app, not in ours.
3.Contacting us with feedback
The Feedback screen lets you report a problem or suggest an improvement. Sending feedback is entirely optional. If you send it, we receive the message you wrote plus any contact details you chose to include, and we may keep it while we investigate and reply. Please do not include sensitive personal information in feedback.
4.Information handled when the app syncs
The app periodically downloads current timetables and service notices — for example, the suspension notice shown during monsoon season. The home screen shows when this last happened.
These are ordinary outbound requests to our server. As with visiting any website, our server can see technical details of the request, which may include:
- Your IP address (which gives an approximate region, not a precise location)
- The app version and Android version making the request
- The date and time of the request
We use this only to deliver the timetable, keep the service running and diagnose faults. We do not build advertising profiles from it, and we do not attempt to identify individual users from it. Server logs are kept for 30 days and then deleted.
5.Third-party services
Third-party services are used
The app uses the following services, which process limited information on our behalf and under their own privacy policies:
- Service name: Google Firebase Crashlytics — Records crash reports containing device model, Android version and the technical stack trace.
These services do not receive your favourites, recent searches or feedback unless stated above.
6.Children
The app is a public transport timetable and is suitable for general audiences, but it is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through feedback, contact us and we will delete it.
7.Your choices and rights
Because almost everything the app stores stays on your own device, you are in direct control of it:
- Delete your data — clear recent searches and favourites in the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything at once. You can also use Android's Clear storage option for the app.
- Stop syncing — the app can be used with its cached timetable while offline.
- Feedback you sent us — write to us and we will delete it and our replies, unless we are required to keep them.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, port or restrict the processing of personal information, and to complain to a data protection authority. To exercise any of these, use the contact details below.
8.Security and retention
Timetable requests are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. We keep information only as long as it is needed for the purpose described above. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable technical measures to protect the limited information we handle.
9.Where information is processed
Our server and any services listed in section 5 may be located outside India. Where information crosses borders, we rely on the safeguards offered by those providers.
10.Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and change the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will also be announced in the app's Announcements screen. The current version of this policy is always the one published at this address.
